Introduction: Connect PS3/PS4 Controller to Windows in 5 Minutes Easy

Did you know that you can use your PS3 / PS4 controller to play games on the PC. This is possible via the SCP Toolkit (with step by step instructions on how to set up) and Bluetooth/USB on the Playstation controllers. This guide will teach you how to set up your controller so that your PC sees it as an Xbox controller (since games don't have native support for PS controllers). Each button will be automatically mapped to the equivalent one on the Xbox controller.

Step 1: Hardware

Keep in mind that the software will install a new driver for your bluetooth dongle meaning that the dongle will be used exclusively for the controllers and will not be able to connect to other bluetooth devices while it is being used.

Step 2: Software

Unlike other methods, the package that we will use is called ScpToolkit and it is an all-in-one installer for the SCP package.

If you are running Windows 7, you will need the Xbox 360 controller drivers as well

Step 3: Install

Before beginning, make sure that if you have a bluetooth dongle, it is plugged in and that Windows has installed the appropriate drivers for it.

1. Open up the installer. When installing, you can leave everything at its default values. This will install the tools onto your computer. It is worth noting that the actual driver installation does not happen until later.
2. When the installer finishes, the driver installation page should open up. If not, you can search for ScpToolkit Driver Installer.
3. On this program, You can choose to install drivers for Bluetooth, PS3, PS4 controllers, etc. Select the ones that apply to you then look left and select the appropriate devices that correspond to the device you want to install the driver to.
   1. If you are on Windows Vista, then you must click force install
   2. If you are on any version of windows before Windows 8, select Install Xbox360 controller driver as well
4. Once done, reboot your computer

The server will start with the computer. To connect the controller, simply plug it in or just press the PS button and it will automatically pair with the computer. If the controller is not pairing via Bluetooth, insert a needle into the reset hole on the back of the controller.

To test this, you can open Steam Big Picture mode or load up any controller compatible game!

SCP Driver Package is an open-source driver which allows for DS2 (DualShock 2), DS3, and DS4 to work natively on Microsoft Windows. Windows will recognize the DualShock controllers as Xbox 360 controllers.

Instructions[edit]

Pre-Install1. Uninstall MotioninJoy (if already installed)

2. Update your 360 controller drivers if you haven't done so.

From the thread itself:

New Install

1. Connect your Dongle and DualShock controller via USB and let Windows install its default drivers.
2. Copy the archive to a temporary directory.
3. Right click on the archive and select Properties.
4. Click the Unblock button if it is displayed on the General tab.
5. Unpack the archive.
6. Create a directory where you want the Service to run from.
7. Copy the contents of the ScpServerbin to the directory you created.
8. Run ScpDriver.exe.
9. XP/Vista - check the Force Install option. Win 7/8 leave it unchecked.
10. Click Install.
11. If you do not see the install summary as per screenshot and your dongle is in the directly supported list - click Uninstall, check the Force Install option, click Install.
12. Click Exit.

You may need to run ScpMonitor.exe as well if you're using Bluetooth.

PCSX2 and PCSX-R[edit]

• Copy the LilyPad-Scp-r5350.dll from the /bin/Win32/ folder and paste it into the plugins folder.
• Change the pad plugin in PCSX2 or PCSX-R from the default LilyPad to the LilyPad-SCP version.
• You may also need to disable DirectInput and XInput before the next step. To prevent crashing, which seems to vary from system to system.
• Then copy over XInput1_3.dll from /bin/Win32/ to PCSX2 or PCSX-R's directory. NOT the plugins directory.
• Now disable all other Game Device APIs other than native if you haven't already. Background input is fine though.
• Set keyboard input to raw while you're at it. For PCSX-R's hotkeys, since Windows messaging input kills them.
• You'll still need to bind the controls. Switch over to the Pad 1 tab to do so.

Notes[edit]

• Installing the Bluetooth SCP driver, which lets you connect your DS3/DS4 devices to your computer wirelessly via a Bluetooth adapter, requires the adapter to be solely dedicated to the SCP service. You will not be able to use other Bluetooth devices with it until you uninstall the Bluetooth SCP driver from the adapter.
• To put a DS3/DS4 to sleep, hold L1 + R1 + Home. Putting a controller to sleep will not actually fully turn it off. Its controller (player) number will remain locked at what it was, and any other controllers added to the setup will need to work around it. This is especially a pain when changing between different controller types (from a DS3 to a 360 pad, for example). The only way to fully disconnect it is to restart the SCP service, done either by manually restarting it or by restarting your computer.
• The analog face buttons on the DS2 and DS3 controllers will only be recognized as digital buttons, just as they are on a 360 controller. Few PS2 games actually use this feature, but it makes most of these games not properly playable.
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 both use pressure sensitivity for various purposes, such as how far to lean with L2/R2 in first-person view and partially pulling the trigger on guns.
  • Mad Maestro requires pressure sensitivity for controlling the volume at which the orchestra plays the given piece of music and is an essential element of gameplay.
  • Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, Gran Turismo 4, and Tourist Trophy all use pressure sensitivity for the accelerator, brake, and D-pad steering, while Tourist Trophy also uses it for tucking. However, it is not necessarily expected for a player to use it, or even a DualShock— the built-in demo replays (such as for license tests) in GT3 seem to have been made on a non-DualShock PS1 controller.

Troubleshooting[edit]

If you are having trouble installing it, please go over these to double check.

• Ensure the Xbox 360 driver installed correctly. Go into Devices & Printers > Xbox 360 Controller > Hardware and update the driver from there.
• Have you tried uninstalling and force installing it?
• Go into properties of all the exe files and hit unblock, especially ScpService.exe.

• Did you install it as an administrator?
• Did the entire folder have Full control privileges for SYSTEM and Administrators?
• Do you have the relevant XInput1_3.dll in the relevant program's exe's directory?
• Does SCPUser.exe show them working?
• Is the 'SCP DS3 Service' service running?
• In the case you're running wired, have you tried reinstalling SCP with Bluetooth unchecked?
